After a August flat spell that would test the patience of any New York surfer hope arrived late in the 3rd week of flatness in the form of a tropical depression that later became Ana. As quickly as Ana got us interested she faded out but what was right behind her became Hurricane Bill. Once Bill formed and intensified to a Category 3 Hurricane the track showed a northwest turn. Surfers all over the area started to get themselves prepared. By late Thursday (20th) we began to see the first pulses and by Saturday afternoon most of Fire Island became unsurfable. The buoys peaked early Sunday morning and the winds went offshore setting up what would become a epic day out in Montauk. Bill wasn't done sending us waves as Monday featured 6+foot sets and perfect conditions while Tuesday was super fun early in the AM with 4+foot sets peeling all over. Here's to Bill and lets hope he has some friends just like him for the rest of the Hurricane season....friends that send us swell for multiple days and stay away from land! Enjoy the pictures!
Saturday morning Bill makes his first appearance....beach erosion real bad
Western FI early Saturday AM...some glassy waves but not perfect yet!

Saturday PM...the officials overreact once again!
Saturday PM...salt was in the air. Breakers across the horizon!
Sunday first light Montauk...not for the faint of heart!
It soon became clear that this was a special day
Pictures do not do it justice! Thats at least a 9 foot A-frame...
you can be that surfer knew how sick that wave was...
Lots of heads in the water...the few on the set waves though...
By PM Sunday things got a bit more tame for all....you know 5-7 foot!
Moday was Fire Island's time to shine....new bar in western FI
Fire island beach barrel!
With 6+ foot sets and offshore winds Fire Island lit up along its 32 miles on Monday

Tuesday AM saw super fun head high waves and prefect lefts roll in....new bar eastern FI

Tuesday was a day for all to get in on the action...thanks Bill
