About Surf Fire Island
Fire Island has always been a home away from home for me. My grandfather fished the waters off of Fire Island and owned land in what is now Sailor Haven/Sunken Forest. I would spend summers there with my family as a child and learned how to do the things that make me a happy individulal; surf and fish. As I entered my teenage years boat trips to Sailors' Haven and the stellar beach breaks at Sunken Forest became ritual. My friends and I cut our teeth surfing hurricane swells all to ourselves at this amazing place. It seemed that everytime we took the ferry from Sayville or jumped in a friends boat the waves were fun there. Of course now we know better...but it still feels like that whenever I think about those days. Around that time we also became aware of other great surf spots on Fire Island; The jetty at Ocean Beach, Davis Park, Barret Beach, Point o Woods, Smith Point and Robert Moses...the list goes on and on. That is the beauty of this paradise that exists just miles from a huge city and a every growing suburban sprawl. With 32 miles of south facing ocean beaches Fire Island can offer complete solitude and endless adventure! Here at SurfFireIsland we hope to offer you a taste of what we have experienced on this magical Island whether it be catching your first wave or finding that empty barrel... -namaste
